POSCO, a leading South Korean steelmaker, ranked 36th on an index of the most sustainable companies in the world.

The steel giant’s rank was the highest mark among four South Korean companies listed on the 2015 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World Index.

POSCO, recognized for its sustainability efforts in environment and society, was also the only steelmaker in the world to be included on the index, which was revealed at the World Economic Forum this week.

A POSCO official said, “We believe our efforts to gain a competitive edge in the steel industry were reflected in the index.”

Since 2005, the World Economic Forum has announced 100 companies that passed a strict assessment of 12 quantitative sustainability indicators.

Other Korean companies included on the list this year were Samsung Electronics at No. 45, LG Electronics at No. 51 and Shinhan Financial Group at No. 70.
